Anthony Kiedis and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to play a concert at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan on May 26th, 2012 – and Peggy Idema couldn’t be happier.
Anthony Kiedis’ mother, who lives in Lowell, knew the band’s May 26th concert was a possibility, but couldn’t discuss it publicly until now.
“I’m very happy the guys are coming to Grand Rapids,” she said via email. “Not only will I get to see my son, but I’ll be able to see my grandson, too. It’s going to be a great year for me, as I will see them in a few weeks in California, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in April and now in Michigan in June. It doesn’t get much better than that.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to delay the start of their 2012 “I’m With You” tour, originally scheduled to kick off today in Florida, after Anthony Kiedis injured his right foot. The first show now will take place on March 29th in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Kiedis, a Grand Rapids native, needed surgery for his foot, and he’s healing well, according to Idema.
“Anthony is now sporting a new RED cast,” she said. “All considered, he’s doing very well. He hasn’t complained at all – except he’s unable to surf!! So, keep your fingers crossed that he heals quickly. I’m hoping he settles down a bit on the stage to preserve that much needed foot. I hope the fans can accept that!”
